The Mosaic Festival in Regina

The Mosaic Festival started in 1974 as a one-day celebration to promote multiculturalism. It has since grown into a three-day long festival with pavilions operating around the city.
Every year, Mosaic provides an opportunity for Reginans to celebrate the diverse multicultural traditions of the city's residents. Pavilions have exhibits of artifacts, traditional dancing and food of different cultures.
The 2016 edition of Mosaic took place in Regina on June 2-4.  It offered 17 pavilions filled with great food, music, dance and culture at locations throughout Regina. My family and I visited 5 povilions this year: Ukrainian, Brazilian, Romanian, Chinese and Scottish. Our 4-years old daughter have danced at Ukrainian pavilion this year. This pavilion is the biggest and most popular every year.
The Mosaic Festival it's lots of fun for kids and adults every year.

CLB5R Read letters to an advice columnist in the newspaper to decide whether you agree with the advice given.

Dear Aunt Aggie,

I have read your reply to Josephine and I disagree with the advice given her.
To advise her to start smoking and don't care about health risk in her age are not smart advices. It sounds like a joke and not respectful.
I agree, smokers often use this habit as a way to relax and deal with stress, but people around should be not involved as a passive smokers. Most public places prohibit to smoke in the buildings and around it to protect non-smokers.
Hope you reply was a funny joke for Josephine and not serious at all.

Have a great day,

Eugene

Orthodox Easter in Ukraine

Next Sunday, on May 1st all Orthodox Christians will celebrate the Easter that also known as Pascha. It is most important event in the Orthodox Church calendar. In Ukraine the Monday after Easter Sunday is a public holiday, so people can have a day off from work and school.
On Easter Day Christians go to the church with Easter basket full of special food to be blessed. Usually this basket contain Paska (a type of Easter bread), pysanky (decorated eggs), ham, salo (pork fat), kovbasa, cheese, etc. Right after the ceremony the family hurries home to eat the blessed food.
"Knocking" is the one of Easter games. This game involves two players who have one egg each. They have to try to knock each other’s eggs. The player who breaks first another player's egg is a winner.
Orthodox churches calculate their Easter date as per the Julian calendar. It is different from the Gregorian calendar that is used by the Catholic Churches. Therefore the Orthodox Easter usually is later than the Catholic one.

WCP Cup in Regina

WCP stands for World Class Players. For 11 years the WCP soccer tournament runs from March  through to April every year in Regina. It has become a three week event with over 1,200 participants, including men, women, youth boys and girls. Soccer players from across Saskatchewan and Canada come to represent their Nations of heritage in the World Class Players Cup.
It is the great event that brings so many different cultures together under one roof, one facility, with nobody fighting people cheering and wearing their colors.
Last year 15 Ukrainian soccer payers from Regina and Saskatoon decided to make a team and participate in WCP Cup. It was first time for last 5 years that Ukrainian men team participated in this tournament. We started our training 3 month before official games. Our team had to play with other four teams ( Nigeria, Columbia, Norway and Poland) and win to go to next level in this competition. We won one game and lost other three. But it was the good result for first year team. Also our fans were the best compare to others. We had the biggest and loudest fans in whole tournament.
WCP Cup tournament is fun, but definitely competitive. The level of play is high and the fans and the players are there to win.

My first snowboarding experiene

Last winter friend of mine took me to snowboarding at Mission Ridge Winter Park at Fort Qu'appelle. Mark MaMorris started snowboarding at this place and won bronze at Olympic Games in Sochi on 2014. This park is not very big but  it is the best one in South Saskatchewan.
My friend had some experience but me and my wife had none. We rented all equipment and bought learner package that include one hour of group instruction. While we were waiting for instructor we learned to how stay and how to walk with snowboard by yourself. The instruction was very basic about how to walk, how to turn  and get up with the snowboard after falling.
After that we spend all day on bunny hill with kids and other learners. Only after couple hours of training I was able to slide from bunny hill without falling.
Overall  I liked my first snowboarding experience despite of a lot of falls and body sore next day.
